Great Blue Heron chosen as Richmond Hill’s “Bird Friendly City” bird

After being recognized with a Brid Friendly City certification from Nature Canada in 2023 for its efforts to support and protect birds, Richmond Hill launched an online poll to select a “Bird Friendly City” bird in 2024. Birds play an essential role in maintaining healthy and resilient ecosystems in our communities, and the Great Blue Heron is a symbol of the natural heritage features that are found throughout Richmond Hill and garnered the most votes to become Richmond Hill’s “Bird Friendly City” bird.
